| Hello! I wonder if anyone has an example of the 'trial by declaration' statement/letter. I'm doing one to contest a fix-it ticket. An officer with self-described excellent hearing wrote me a ticket for 'muffler noise'. Never mind that my car is 10 db quieter than is allowed under the law. I'm still on the hook for $25 even if I show the results from a referee. That's quite a racket they are running here - I pay $174 if I want to forfeit the bail; if I go through a referee I still pay $25 for the privilege of an officer talking to me and giving me a ticket. Not even counting the time I have to waste. So, I've collected some documentation I plan on presenting, but would appreciate pointers on how to write a cover letter. I'm debating if I should point out mistakes on the citation (wrong car model - 350Z; incorrect Vehicle Code stated for the infraction). Or that the officer seemed to be 'fishing' for things - he started with 'why in such a hurry', 'do you know how fast you turned there', etc. Any/all help is appreciated :)
